Finding Ways to Give Back

The following brief descriptions illustrate projects that have contributed to community development.  Most of them explore ideas that persuade or offer a practical method or two for change.  Unfettered by billable hours, overhead and deadlines, they seek a "this for that" quality exchange, including RSS links.
  • To participate on urban design questions, see the Urban Design Blog
  • A purely academic exploration of three ideas about design is in the Community/Urban Design Blog

The New York Metro Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) Urban Design Committee sought submissions to demonstrate links between public participation and urban design.

Thirty Projects were submited from planning and architectural firms, public agencies, university-based programs, community developmen corporations and civic associations in New York City, the Hudson Valley and Long Island. The program encouraged sharing of successes and frustrations over the last decade to the present.  More on this webite use this link.  PPPP

New Housing New York began as an interest in bringing an ideas competition into reality.  Rex Curry participated in early strategy sessions and identified key volunteers.  Tara Siegle, a Rose Fellow at Pratt Institute was recruited to serve in the development of the competition program in partnership with Evan Supcoff, AIA, HNTB Architecture.  For additional information please see the website New Housing New York. The project will result in 100 apartments for low- and moderate-income families in the Bronx.
